What Makes It “Triple”

The magic of this cake lies in its extreme goodness of chocolates. It gives your taste buds the pleasure of chocolate three times more than any regular cake.

Let’s give you a sneak peek of what three things make it irresistibly good:

  1. The Moist Chocolate Sponge

  2. Creamy Chocolate Ganache

  3. The Chocolate Chips

Essential Preparations

Before making our triple-layer chocolate cake, we must gather every necessary item.

Let’s list down the ingredients that are needed to make this cake:

For The Cake:

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda

  • ¾ teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar

  • ⅔ cup neutral oil (vegetable, canola, or avocado)

  • ½ cup melted unsalted butter

  • 2 large eggs, (room temperature)

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature

  • ½ cup hot coffee (regular or decaf)

  • 1 cup chocolate chips (optional)

For the Chocolate Ganache:

  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • 8 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped

How To Make The Sponge

  1. Preheat The Oven Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Then, set out three 8-inch round cake pans, grease them with any natural oil, and flour them slightly.

  2. Prepare The Dry Ingredients. Combine the granulated and brown sugar in a separate bowl using a whisk. This combination adds more layers to the sweetness of the cake.

  3. Prepare The Wet Ingredients. Then, in another bowl, combine the oil, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract in a blender and blend until smooth.

  4. Add Buttermilk Slowly pour the buttermilk into the wet ingredients and mix with a whisk until combined properly.

  5. Mix The Dry And Wet Ingredients. And the most fascinating step of it all! It is essential to remember that the dry ingredients in the recipe should be mixed slowly into the wet ingredients by gently folding them. It is also important not to overmix here since the batter gets stiff and would make the cake hard.

  6. Add A Dash Of Coffee. In the next step, add the hot coffee to the mixer and stir until the liquid is well mixed. This helps bring out the chocolate flavor evenly and adds moisture to the chocolate.

  7. The Chocolate Chips! If you add chocolate chips, gently add them to the mixture before proceeding to the next step. Mix some of it into the batter before baking, and add some to the top in a thick layer just before you put the cake into the oven.

  8. Bake The Cake. Spread the batter for each cake evenly and let the cakes rise before baking. Now, bake your cake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick in the cake comes out clean of any wet batter.

  9. Cool it down.  Allow the cakes to cool for as long as possible on a wire rack before frosting. This minimizes the chances of the frosting melting and also makes the process of spreading the frosting easier.

How To Make The Ganache

  1. Heat The Heavy Cream In a separate saucepan, warm the heavy cream gently on the stovetop over medium heat until it reaches a gentle simmering point but not boiling.

  2. Melt Your Chocolate Take the cream off the heat and slowly pour it over the chopped chocolate in a bowl. Allow it to rest for 5 minutes.

  3. Mix Well!  After about 5 minutes of melting, the chocolate mixture will be smooth and shiny when stirred.

The Final Look!

  • Once all three of your chocolate moist cakes are cooled down, and your ganache is ready, it is high time you start the process of assembling the final look

  • After each cake, pour over a generous amount of ganache until you reach three good layers.

  • To give your cake a final touch of chocolaty goodness, drizzle it with chocolate of any form, you can use chocolate bars, chocolate chips, or simply melted white chocolate for a beautiful finished look

Refrigerate your cake for a minimum of 30 minutes and then serve your chocolate cake slice happily!
